According to Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, minister of information, parliament does not agree that the size of the government needs to be reduced.

The recent confirmation of the six cabinet nominees by parliament, in Mr. Oppong Nkrumah's opinion, emphasizes his position.

The opposition and civil society organizations have made several requests for the size of the government to be reduced.

These organizations have advocated that spending reductions were necessary, particularly in light of the nation's economic difficulties.

But the MP for Ofoase Ayirebi claimed that the activities of parliament show a different viewpoint.

"From what I gather, the parliament does not even hold that opinion. The last time the question was posed in parliament, you witnessed what took place.

"You saw the numbers the last time it was on the table, despite all the discussions. Therefore, the entire parliament does not even have that opinion, he remarked in a radio interview on Sunday.

The newly appointed ministers, he continued, do not incur additional expenses for the state.

Mr. Nkrumah emphasized that because they are paid as members of parliament, there is no additional expense to the taxpayer.

Therefore, he stressed that increasing the number of ministers does not come at an additional expense to the people, which is why Parliament did not share the public's opinion.

However, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah claimed that the administration was prepared and receptive to potential means of reducing spending.
