How Did Eve and Adam Pass Away?

Thu, 20 Apr 2023 Source: Alby News Ghana

Sin first appeared thanks to Adam and Eve.

The first guy to ever exist was Adam. He was the first human being that God created, and he was given a special place to live in the Garden of Eden. According to Romans 5:12, Adam is the ancestor of all people, and because of him, all people have a sinful nature.

According to Genesis 1, God spoke the universe into existence. But on the sixth day of creation, God altered His usual course. He fashioned Adam out of clay after digging in the earth. Then, as described in Genesis 2:7, He breathed His breath into Adam's nostrils, giving him a living soul. Humans and animals are divided by the breath of God. Since Adam, every person has possessed an eternal spirit that they share with God. God made a being similar to Himself so that man could think, reason, have intuition, and make decisions.

According to Genesis 2:21–22, Eve, the first woman, was made from a rib of Adam. The only restriction placed on the pair when God placed them in His ideal world was that they could not eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Adam had the option to disobey because doing so would provide people full freedom. God gave Adam and Eve complete freedom when He created them, giving them the ability to make their own decisions.

The account of Adam's decision to sin is found in Genesis 3. When Eve and Adam ate from the forbidden tree, they defied God's command. They entered God's perfect realm with their disobedient act, bringing with them the results of sin. Adam was the gateway via which sin and death entered the world. Because Adam is mentioned in the Bible as a genuine person and not a myth, we accept that he existed. In Luke 3:38, the renowned historian Luke traces Jesus' ancestry to Adam. Also, Adam served as the model for all subsequent humans.

The first Adam's offspring included kings, priests, and prophets, all of whom were born with a sinful nature. According to First Corinthians 15:47, Jesus, who was born without sin, was the "second Adam." The second Adam brought life into the world, but the first Adam introduced sin. For anybody who believes in Jesus, rebirth with a new life and nature is available. The second Adam will restore paradise, which the first Adam lost.

How did Eve and Adam pass away?

According to Genesis 5:5, Adam passed away at the age of 930. We can presume that the couple died of natural causes or old age even though the Bible doesn't specify how old Eve was when she passed away or how they passed away. The ten patriarchs who were born before the Great Flood, with the exception of Enoch, lived to be roughly 900 years old. Adam's offspring and grandchildren similarly outlived their parents. According to Genesis 5:9, Noah's father Lamech passed away at the age of 777 whereas Seth, Adam's son, lived to be 912 years old. According to Genesis 5:27, Methuselah, Noah's great-grandfather, lived the longest at 969 years.

After the flood, the average human lifetime dramatically changed. The patriarchs who lived after the deluge did so for 435 years. By Abraham's time, people were only surviving less than 200 years. In Moses' time, the usual lifespan was 70 or 80 years, therefore it was considered elderly when he passed away at 120.

Did Eve and Adam understand what death was?

God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden when they were first formed, where they lived in a state of innocence. Except for one tree in the garden, God granted them free reign to all the fruit, as stated in Genesis 2:17. Some individuals believe that Adam and Eve's penalty for disobedience was severe because, prior to eating from the forbidden tree, they lacked moral awareness.

However, the Bible never asserts that Adam and Eve lacked moral awareness. They realized the difference because Eve knew that God had commanded them not to eat the forbidden fruit, according to Genesis 3:2–3. The concept of good and evil was clear to Adam and Eve before they sinned, or else they wouldn't have known what it meant to accept God's commands. Before eating the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve hadn't sinned, and their transgression was the precursor to learning the distinction between good and evil experientially and firsthand.

Adam and Eve were aware that eating from the tree was wrong, even if God never completely explained this to them. Making the appropriate choice didn't require any additional information. For instance, we are aware that murder is unacceptable without having to be told why. It doesn't matter if Adam and Eve didn't understand why they couldn't eat the forbidden fruit because they already knew and recognized that doing so was wrong. Death is a result of sin, not ignorance on the part of Adam and Eve. God did not put them to death because they were ignorant; rather, it was because they disobeyed what they knew to be right.

Their defiance, not their ignorance, was what led to their deaths. In order for Adam and Eve to comprehend that breaking God's command was wrong, they didn't need to see or experience death. It's easy for us to assume that Adam and Eve were less likely to offend God than they were in the past when we consider death and sin, but it is only an assumption. We can't dispute that Adam and Eve rejected God's order, and Romans 6:23 informs us that "the wages of sin is death." Whether or whether this first-hand information may have influenced their decision is up for debate.

Why did Adam and Eve not perish right away for their sin?

According to Genesis 2:17, if Adam and Eve ever ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, they would undoubtedly perish. They continued to eat off the tree despite surviving to tell the tale. Some people think that Adam and Eve did really pass away, just not physically. Some people think that the death is referring to a spiritual passing. After eating from the tree, Adam and Eve were cut off from God.

According to a different view, sin caused both spiritual and physical death. As soon as Adam and Eve rebelled against God, their souls were torn away from him, and their bodies began to deteriorate. All of humanity has inherited their spiritual death and sensitivity to bodily mortality. Despite not knowing how they died, Adam and Eve were aware of the consequences of their choices, according to the Bible.
