In response to his recent remarks about the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, rejected calls for his resignation.

During a meeting with Ashanti Regional Health Managers, the Minister of Health stated that the Scheme was inactive and needed to be reactivated.

Former President John Dramani Mahama demanded that the Minister resign if he is incapable of supervising the health sector upon hearing this news.

However, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, speaking at a forum, asserted that the former President misunderstood his remark.

"An elderly, respectable statesman, such as former President John Dramani Mahama, descends into the gutter in the gallery to spread propaganda that the health minister should resign. Does this necessitate a resignation? I came to work for the country, and I have acted as any health minister would. If you don't value my labor, don't needlessly destroy me."

John Dramani Mahama spoke at a meeting with branch and constituency executives of his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in Sefwi Adobokrom, Bia East Constituency, to the raucous acclaim of the people.

In response to the Minister's acknowledgment of failure, the former president stated that Mr. Agyemang Manu must resign because his statements are unbecoming of a Health Minister.

John Dramani Mahama demands the resignation of Agyemang Manu in light of the NHIS's demise.

Former President John Dramani Mahama demanded the resignation of the Minister of Health following his admission that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has failed.

The Minister of Health has stated that the Scheme no longer functions, confessing that he no longer utilizes the service and prefers to pay for his own medical care.

According to him, the care provided to NHIS cardholders at various facilities falls short of expectations. Patients who are unable to pay are denied access to medical services, to which he objected with vehemence. In response to the Minister's admission of failure, the former president urged Mr. Agyemang Manu to resign so that someone who is capable of performing the duties could take over.

"He acknowledged that he had failed. He claims the NHIS has failed because he has been unable to expand it. He has no business serving as health minister..."He must step down!"

The former president, supplying additional information, stated that NHIS cardholders are denied access to the majority of health care facilities because the government is not paying their claims. "Healthcare facilities have not been compensated for services rendered to cardholders since the previous year. John Dramani Mahama questioned, "How do you anticipate that they will continue to treat them?"

Many have questioned the Minister's public complaints rather than accepting responsibility for making the Scheme functional.

A social media commentator shared her thoughts on the minister's statement, stating, "he appears to be speaking as an outsider who is merely observing the system without the ability to affect change."

John Mahama continued, reiterating his position that Mr. Kwaku Agyeman Manu must resign if the NHIS is not operating as effectively as it once did.

"It is inexcusable for a minister to be a bystander. The collapse of the Scheme occurred during his tenure and under his leadership. Acceptance of the system's ineffectiveness should be accompanied by resignation."
