Only in the month of March 2023, three cruise ships with a combined 3,790 passengers on board called the Port of Takoradi home.
This is the first time in the Port's history that cruise vessel calls have been recorded so quickly.
The 285m-long Zuiderdam, which landed on March 25 with 2,272 passengers on board, is among the ships. The cruise ship is the biggest one to ever visit the port.
The Azamara Journey, which made a port visit on March 14 with 694 passengers, and the Insignia, which made a port call on March 23 with 824 passengers, came before the Zuiderdam.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic breakout in 2020, which led the Ghana Tourism Authority to impose a moratorium on such vessels, the Port had been observing a two-year pause for passenger vessels.
