It Is Humorous To Praise Mahama For Paying His Electricity Bills After His Refusal To Return His Ex-Gratia - Wontumi.

Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, referred to recent praise for former President John Dramani Mahama paying his own electricity bills as a farce.

According to him, there is no cause for celebration, as the former president has received an ex-gratia payment that is more than sufficient to meet his requirements.

Chairman Wontumi added that because ordinary Ghanaians also pay their electricity bills, it was unnecessary to commend Mahama for doing the same.

He further stated that it was hypocritical for Mahama to receive such a large sum of money and then pay his own expenses while expecting praise.

"It is absurd to commend John Mahama for paying his electricity bills when he refuses to refund the ex-gratia he received from the state.

"An elderly man like him pays his own expenses and expects us to applaud him, but what about young boys who are not as wealthy as him but also pay their own bills? Small boys also pay their electric expenses, so we should rather ask Mahama to return the state's ex-gratia.

"You must feel remorse for your actions. Even thirty-year-olds pay their own rent and utility bills. Why should a mature man like you still depend on the state when you have collected more ex-gratia than any living or deceased President in Ghana?' he was quoted as asking in an interview with wontumionline.com.

The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has recently confirmed that former President John Dramani Mahama has been paying his own electricity invoices.

In an exclusive interview with TV3 in 2022, Mahama revealed that he receives only a monthly pension from the government and that the state has not paid any other bills since he departed office in 2017.

Mahama stated that he is responsible for numerous expenses, including electricity, gasoline, office rent, and travel costs.
