John Dumelo attacks the government for enacting a new tax on winnings from gambling and the lottery.

Dumelo said that the governmental authority should concentrate on creating work opportunities for the young rather than imposing greater costs.

When President Akufo-Addo approves and periodically signs the new duty measures enacted by Parliament recently, wagering, lotteries, and shot-in-the-dark prizes will start to be subject to a 10% saved portion tax at the location of payout. Additionally, there would be a 20% tax on all revenue for betting companies.

Dumelo, a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), expressed his concerns about the development on Twitter and issued a warning that, should these tactics continue, the youth may eventually rise up against their leaders. Dumelo, a punter himself, tweeted: "Make jobs, or you will not make. You need to burden their awards because the teenagers have established their own positions too. Go on. On that day, the teenager will rise up against you. By then, it would be too late to turn back.

Many young Ghanaians who participate in gambling have also denounced the new assessment through online entertainment.

Over the past ten years, Ghana's gambling industry has seen tremendous growth, leading to the establishment of a few businesses there.

While some Ghanaians highlight its impact on youth, others view it as a legal activity so long as no laws are breached.
