The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has fulfilled its GHC100,000 pledge to the victims of the Kejetia New Market fire calamity, despite several media backlashes.

On March 20, 2023, the General Secretary for NPP led a delegation of some national executives of the party to the Kejetia Market and pledged Ghc100,000 to the merchants after a devastating fire broke out in the facility.

During the pledge, the scribe of the elephant party stated that it was a small consolation package for victims of the fire that destroyed 33 stores.

A month after the party failed to fulfill its promise, some media outlets in the Ashanti Region began to query the party's leadership.

In response to the outrage in the media, on Friday, April 28, 2023, the NPP presented the merchants with $100,000 in physical currency.

A delegation led by the Ashanti Regional Women's Organizer for the NPP, Nana Ama Ampomaa, presented the funds to the market's leadership.

"On behalf of the National Chairman and General Secretary of the party, we are presenting this GHC100,000 to fulfill a promise made by the party following the fire outbreak." She spoke.

Nana Ama Ampomaa reassured the affected merchants of the party's resolve to mitigate the impact of the fire on them.

A prominent member of the Combined Kumasi Kejetia Traders, Nana Prempeh, received the money on behalf of the traders and thanked the leadership of the ruling party for the gesture.

He thanked the NPP for keeping the agreement made with them.
