Kintampo accident - 18 injured persons Discharge; 4 others referred

About eighteen (18) victims of the Kintampo accident have been treated and charged while 4 others in critical condition have also been referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.

About Twenty-Five (25) persons were rushed to the Kintampo Municipal Hospital early hours of Independence day; 6 of whom were declared critically unstable and were being prepared for referral to more advanced hospitals for treatment. But the issue of bed unavailability led to the delay in referring them. The referral of the four on Monday evening has been successful following the intervention by the Human Resource manager at the Bono East Regional Health Directorate.

Health workers at the facility revealed to MyNewsGh.com that the remaining three are in stable condition.

Seven(7) of the Twenty-Three923) dead bodies have been identified and are being processed for burial in Kintampo.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Grandbird Bus, his mate and the Articulated truck driver are currently assisting the Kintampo Divisional Police Command in investigations.

The fatal accident which claimed 23 lives while about 25 sustained various degrees of injuries occurred late Sunday night; match 5, 2023

The accident involving a Grandbird Bus with registration number As463522 and and Articulator truck with registration number GW1127P occurred around 11:45 pm around the Kintampo waterfalls; between Kintampo and Babato Kumah on the Kintampo Tamale Highway.

The Grandbird Bus, according to the police in their preliminary investigations and some victims, was heading to Kumasi from Yendi in the Northern region with 52 passengers on board while the articulated truck loaded with floor tiles was also heading towards Tamale.

The main cause of the accident is yet to be established but some eyewitnesses said it was caused by a head-on collision between the two vehicles after the driver of the Articulated truck attempted to swerve a broken-down vehicle on the roadside.

The dead bodies are currently at the Kintampo Municipal Hospital Mortuary undergoing preservation.

The Bono East Regional minister Honorable Kwasi Adu Gyan and the Kintampo North Municipal chief executive, honorable Isaac Baffoe Ameyaw together with the Kintampo Divisional Police commander, have visited the accident scene and the victims at the hospital to commensurate with them.

The Medical Superintendent of the Kintampo Municipal Hospital, Doctor Anthony Twum told the media about 6 of the victims were in critical condition and were being prepared to be referred to Komfo Anoakye Teaching Hospital and the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
