Labour party suspend Peter Obi's partner Kenneth Okonkwo

The National Executive Council of the Labour Party has suspended Kenneth Okonkwo, the spokesperson for the Presidential Campaign Council, and twelve other members, including Comrade Obiora Ifo, the Acting National Publicity Secretary.

The suspension occurred during the party's NEC meeting on Wednesday, and the members were suspended for alleged anti-party activities and disorderly conduct against the Alhaji Bashir Lamidi Apapa-led Labour Party leadership.

The communique issued at the conclusion of the meeting stated that the suspension was a result of the actions of the members, which included issuing statements without party authorization.

In addition, the NEC suspended all National Working Committee (NWC) members and State Chairmen and Secretaries who attended the NEC meeting convened by Barr Julius Abure in Asaba, Delta state, on April 18, 2023.

Abure was suspended for disobeying a Federal Capital Territory High Court order prohibiting him from representing himself as the national chairman of the party.

In addition to recommending disciplinary action against the suspended members, the NEC meeting also recommended further investigations into their deceptive and anti-party activities.

Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, Comrade Mrs. Ladi Illiya, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi, Chief Innocent Okeke Agumba, and Mrs. Dudu Manuga, who directed the gubernatorial primaries in the states of Imo, Bayelsa, and Kogi on April 15, 2023, would be investigated.

Barr Julius Abure and Umar Farouk Ibrahim, who presented themselves as National Chairman and National Secretary, directed the primary elections.
