Lieutenant Colonel Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf, the son of a monarch, Oba Yusuf Omokanye Oyekanmi, the Elemona of Ilemona in the Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State, has been appointed as President-elect Bola Tinubu's Aide-de-Camp, according to Vanguard.

Yusuf has been designated as the designate Aide-de-Camp to President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu prior to his inauguration on May 29, 2023.

Monday, May 1, 2023 is when Yusuf is expected to recommence his official duties.

Sources revealed that Tinubu's ADC nominee previously held sensitive positions in the Presidential Villa during former President Goodluck Jonathan's administration. This indicates that Yusuf will bring his intelligence and VIP protocol and protection expertise to his new position.

Tinubu must have sought permission from General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff, to have Yusuf work with him as he prepares to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari on May 29 due to Yusuf's background.

The rise of YUSUF in the military ranks

Yusuf enrolled at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electrical-Electronics), following his completion of an Ordinary National Diploma in Computer Science from Offa Polytechnic in 2000.

He attended Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the United Kingdom between 2004 and 2005.

The RMAS is the institution where all British Army officers are trained to assume leadership responsibilities over their personnel.

In 2006, he attended the Nigerian Army Intelligence School in Lagos, where he received intelligence and security-related training in accordance with Nigerian Army training policies and directives.

In 2007, he attended the Young Officer's Course Infantry, NASI, in Kaduna, which provided him with military training in the use of various weapon systems utilized by infantry divisions and special operations.

Yusuf improved his officer skills by completing the Tactical Intelligence Officers and Security Investigations courses in 2008.

Between 2009 and 2018, the officer who is conversant in Yoruba, Hausa, English, and French attended numerous military trainings in Mali, Pakistan, China, Israel, and the United Kingdom.

Military Intelligence Basic Officers Course (Mali); Junior Staff Course (China); Officers Advanced Intelligence Course (SMI) (Pakistan); and Advanced Command and Staff Course (Shrivenham, United Kingdom).

Yusuf obtained a master's degree in Defence Studies from Kings College, London in 2018 and a postgraduate diploma in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the National Open University (NOUN) while undergoing military training.

YUSUF'S PAST ROLES

Yusuf was the officer in command (Technical) of the 119 Intelligence Group in Lagos. He was then transferred to the headquarters of the fourth brigade in Benin, where he served as operations officer.

In 2015, he was promoted to Officer Commanding, Presidential Body Guard, State House, Abuja. He previously served as Officer Commanding, State House Military Intelligence Group.

Yusuf served as a Staff Officer, Grade 1, for the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corp (NAIC) in 2017.

In 2005, Yusuf was commissioned into the Officers Cadre at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom. Between 2017 and 2019, he served as Military Assistant to the Chief of Training/Operations at Army Headquarters. He was later promoted to the position of Assistant Director of Intelligence/Security.

From 2020 to 2022, Yusuf served as DDA Librarian at the Nigerian Defence Section in Paris, France. Prior to his appointment as Tinubu's ADC, he was Staff Officer at the NAIC headquarters in Abuja.
