The next National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration would launch further investigations into the fatalities that took place during the 2020 national elections, according to former president John Dramani Mahama.

He vowed to generously recompense each and every family of the deceased while criticizing President Nana Addo Dankwa for failing to do so.

During the 2020 elections, there was some electoral violence that led to fatalities in the nation.

In order to cap off his three-day tour of the Eastern Region, Mr. Mahama spoke to branch and constituency executives of the Lower West Akyem and Upper West Akyem constituencies at Asamankese.

"Eight people passed away during the 2020 presidential election. Our President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has not yet expressed his sympathies to the families of the deceased. We will definitely look into this subject if, by God's grace, we win the general elections in 2024. Parents who lost their kids will receive generous compensation. Even though we are aware that we cannot trade cash for people, ex-president Mahama promised that this would at least provide some solace.

CDD-Ghana forum against violence in the 2020 elections

In February 2022, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the Ghana Police Service, the National Peace Council, political parties, and the media participated in a forum organized by the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) with assistance from the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP).

In 11 Constituencies from six of of Ghana's 16 administrative regions, CDD-Ghana has been monitoring the status of electoral violence cases reported in the 2020 elections as part of its "Post-Elections Accountability on Elections Security" initiative.

In order to increase public confidence in the security and criminal justice systems and lessen the likelihood of potential retaliation attacks during future elections, the project aims to promote the swift resolution of all cases.

The forum was set up as part of attempts to accomplish this goal in order to help close the trust gap between the State, security services, and criminal justice institutions and the victims'/families' families in order to advance justice.

Along with offering them access to reliable information from important players on their individual cases, it also aimed to give the victims and families of those who were harmed a secure environment in which to express their experiences and difficulties in obtaining justice.
