My father rejected me since I didn't want to pursue a career in medicine, but he later became proud of my handiwork.

Moses Amiebenomo, a well-known celebrity carpenter, has described how his father abandoned him for choosing not to pursue a career in medicine. It was learned that this young man's father is a well-known attorney from Auchi, Edo State.

The young guy described how, after getting 280 on the UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination), he was assigned to study medicine at the University of Maiduguri in an exclusive article by the Punch Newspaper. He chose to study chemistry instead when he got to the university because it was a topic that readily came to him. His father ceased providing financial assistance when he learned that his son was majoring in chemistry rather than medicine and asked the rest of the family to do likewise in the hopes that hunger would motivate him to change his course.

Moses Amiebenomo was compelled to work menial jobs while in school in order to put food on the table and save money for his tuition, but he did not let this stop him from continuing to pursue his chosen course of study. He discovered he had a talent for carpentry after graduation with no immediate profession to do and made the decision to travel to Italy to study the trade from the best.

When he arrived in Italy, he discovered that the company where he wished to pursue a carpenter apprenticeship no longer accepted apprentices. The young guy didn't give up on his dream in the face of this setback; instead, he packed his belongings and delivered them to the home assistant of the company, who provided him with lodging and eventually let him reside in his basement. Amiebenomo effectively tutored Chemistry to his host's son, a university undergraduate who was on the point of dropping out, thanks to his prior mastery of the subject. Because of this, the assistant had to show him how to build things in the workshop.

He returned to Nigeria after mastering this art but had trouble finding customers. But ever since he received a N 1.6 million contract from a man who admired his work, his company has grown. He established his workshop and enjoyed prosperity, but his father still refuses to accept the presents and meals he sent home.

He spoke to a human rights radio station about his position in an effort to contact his father. This caught his father's notice, and he sent for him. Upon returning home, Moses apologized to his father and explained his line of work. Then, his father made the choice to stop by his workshop.

When his father came to see him, Moses recalled, "When he came here, he looked around and said, 'Why is that guy not wearing a helmet?' and other stuff." When he began saying this, I felt a little anxious, but when we left the building, he held my hand and praised me, saying, "I am very proud of you."

I was pleased since that was the best thing anyone had ever said to me.
