Obi's Petition Is About Nigeria, Not Just Tinubu Becoming President - Jimi Disu

In light of recent reports that a faction of the Labour Party is attempting to withdraw the petition filed by Peter Gregory Obi challenging the results of the February 25 presidential elections, veteran journalist and public affairs commentator Jimi Disu has come forward to explain why Nigerians must not allow the case to be abbreviated prior to a full trial.

During an interview on Nigeria Info FM's 'Dailies Today' program on Wednesday morning, Disu argued that the case no longer belongs to Obi alone, but to all Nigerians, as the judgments that will be rendered on some of the petition's contents will bring clarity to the country's future electoral processes.

He stated, "The ongoing conflict within the Labour Party is a filthy one, and I believe that there have been concessions along the way. As part of the game of politics, you must infiltrate your adversary's camp and attempt to distract them. I do not believe they will succeed in withdrawing the case, and I certainly hope not. Because those concerned in the petition must be aware that this is a Nigerian case. It has now surpassed Obi and Tinubu.

This is a very important case because the outcome will determine the country's electoral future. Therefore, I would recommend that nobody tamper with this circumstance. This petition transcends the question of whether Tinubu or Obi will become president, as it will resolve a multitude of questions pertaining to legal interpretations of particular aspects of our electoral laws. In addition, it will bring peace to the nation. I would like to implore the Labour Party faction to prioritize Nigeria in their affairs. Imagine how the public will react if the case is successfully withdrawn."
