Popular Media Figures and Their Educational Backgrounds

Are you curious about the Senior High School and other educational institutions that your beloved radio or television personality attended?Here is a brief compilation by MyNewsGh.com of the institutions that some prominent media practitioners attended; you may be surprised to learn that some of them attended your former school.

Lexis Bill -PRESEC

Louis Kwame Sakyiamah, also known as Lexis Bill, is a radio and television host and entrepreneur from Ghana. He is the presenter of Drive Time on Accra's Joy FM.

He was born to Mr. Dickson Nuamah and Mrs. Wilhemina Animwaah in the Ghanaian Eastern Region city of Abompe. He is the oldest of three siblings.

After concluding his primary education at PRESEC-Legon, he attended Presbyterian Boys' Senior High School for his secondary education before graduating from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science. Lexis subsequently pursued an MBA from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

Bola Ray -Accra Academy

Nathan Kwabena Anokye Adisi, also known as Bola Ray, is a radio and television personality and entrepreneur from Ghana. Since 2014, he has served as CEO of media conglomerate EIB Network Group and CEO of Empire Entertainment.

Bola Ray was born to Gladys Adisi and completed his secondary education at Accra Academy. He then attended the University of Ghana Business School, where he earned a Diploma in Public Administration, and Central University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. 2015 marked his graduation from the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan (ALTIS) and the Catholic Institute of Business and Technology (CIBT) with an MBA in Global Business and Sustainability.

Nana Aba Anamoah – National

Nana Aba Anamoah is a graduate of Ghana National College Cape Coast and the University of Ghana Business School's Development Finance program. She has taken Executive Education courses at Harvard Kennedy School (Harvard University), including one in 21st Century Leadership.

She is a well-known Ghanaian media figure engaged in philanthropy and a role model for the majority of young female broadcasters. She is the general manager of GHOne TV and Starr 103.5 FM in Accra at the moment. She also serves as a representative for women's football in Ghana. Anamoah is a committee member for the Women's Premier League in Ghana. Additionally, she is a football devotee who cheers for Manchester United and Accra Great Olympics.Johnnie Hughes – HOTCASS

The Broadcaster's ideal school was Accra Academy because it offered science, but when he was offered Visual Arts, his father enrolled him in a separate school so that he could pursue his desired major. Pure Science was offered to him at Holy Trinity Cathedral Senior High School, where he was sent. He was very outspoken at HOTCASS and a representative of the SRC for forms 1 and 2. He was selected as Compound Prefect, SRC Vice President, and a crucial member of the successful National Debate team.

He is a graduate of GIJ and possesses certifications in journalism, media studies, and communications (including public relations, advertising, and marketing) from The Institute of Commercial Management in the United Kingdom.

Johnnie Hughes also graduated with honors from the British Council's Master Class for Producers and Presenters for Radio and Television, where he was selected by his fellow students as the course's top student.

He is presently employed by general media (TV 3, ONUA, 3 FM, etc.).

Nana Ama McBrown – Kwadaso L.A. J.S.S

Felicity Ama Agyemang, also known by her stage name Nana Ama McBrown, is a Ghanaian actress, TV host, and musician. She ascended to prominence in Ghana for her roles in numerous television series. She was the host of the cooking program McBrown Kitchen and the entertainment talk show United Showbiz on UTV until she moved to Media General in March 2023.

McBrown's parents, Cecilia Agyenim Boateng and Kwabena Nkrumah, divorced when she was a child.

McBrown attended St. Peter's International Residential School before transferring to Minnesota International and finally Central International. She attended Kwadaso L.A. J.S.S. until she dropped out and was unable to take the Basic Education Certificate Exams. McBrown later attended the College of Business and obtained a certificate in secretarial studies.

Abeiku Santana – National & GHANASS

Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana alias Abeiku Santana is a Ghanaian media personality and entrepreneur. He is also the CEO of the Ghanaian travel company Kaya Tours Ghana Limited.

Born in Koforidua in Ghana's Eastern Region, he received his primary education at Nana Kwaku Boateng Experimental School in Koforidua and his Ordinary Level certificate at Ghana National College, Cape Coast. Then, for his Advanced level Certificate, he attended Ghana Senior High School in Koforidua. He holds a master's degree in Tourism Management from the University of Cape Coast, a postgraduate certificate in public administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, an associate's degree in legal studies and litigation from the New York Paralegal School, and an advanced certificate in public relations and advertising from the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

Santana earned a second Master of Science from the University of Ghana Business School (UGBS).

He is employed by the Despite Group on their Okay platform.

Serwaa Amihere – Yaa Asantewaa

Serwaa Amihere is a Ghanaian journalist and newscaster who is presently employed by GHOne TV. She won the 2018 Radio and Television Personality Award for Outstanding Female Television Newscaster. She began her career as the producer of Nana Aba Anamoah's award-winning current affairs program State of Affairs. She hosts GH Today on GH One TV during the weekdays.

Serwaa was the first child born to Frank Yeboah and Lydia Tetteh on March 8, 1990. She is a graduate of Yaa Asantewaa Secondary School and Methodist University College, Ghana, where she studied accounting and finance.

Kwami Sefa Kayi – OKWASS

Kwami Sefa Kayi, also known as Chairman General, is a former pupil of Akropong Akuapem's Okuapeman Secondary School. In 2018, he received an Executive Master of Arts in Conflict, Peace, and Security (EMCPS) from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).

He is regarded as one of the most prominent media figures, broadcast journalists, and public speakers in Ghana. Currently, he hosts the morning program on Peace FM known as "Kokrokoo"
