Every day at six in the morning, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) including Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum modify the retail pricing of gasoline and diesel in accordance with the price of crude oil around the world.

Fuel prices used to be updated every 15 days. The pricing of gasoline and diesel was deregulated by the Center in 2014. The price of petrol is updated every day as of 2017.

Meanwhile, the center recently altered the natural gas pricing mechanism, which had the effect of lowering the cost of CNG and cooking gas delivered to homes' kitchens.
