Accra's Mariville Agblizaa-Spintex Road will host the inaugural 'Slit and Kaba Festival' of African print on Monday, May 1st.

The event, to be organized by Roots Africa and intended at showcasing the rich Ghanaian culture and identity with the Slit and Kaba theme, would feature women dressed in the distinctive attire along with other traditional ornaments.

The Founder and President of Roots Africa, Mrs. Deborah Kabutey-Djisah, also known as Manye Horgbayo Korngo on social media, stated that she was inspired to organize the festival after seeing a social media post (tiktok) depicting women wearing the emblematic slit and kaba attire.

"The kaba and cutaway dress is an integral part of Ghanaian culture and a symbol of the nation's identity. It represents the nation's diverse cultural heritage and traditions. She stated that clothing has social, economic, and cultural significance.

She added that the purpose of hosting a Kaba and Slit festival for Ghanaians was to promote Ghanaian culture and fashion, celebrate Ghana's heritage, and provide a platform for textile and fashion industry stakeholders to communicate and collaborate.

She stated that the festival would continue with subsequent events scheduled for the first week of January each year, including Ghanaians in the diaspora who would be in the country for the Christmas celebrations in December.

Actor and politician Mr. John Dumelo, Queen Naana Adiki Manyeyo Adi I, and Nana Tiaah Ampem Darkoa I were among the event's distinguished guests.

She implored Ghanaians, particularly women, to attend the program and witness the rich Ghanaian cultural display.
