• Traditionalist conducting the ritualsAhead of the Ga people's Homowo festival celebrations in the Greater Accra Region, the Tema Traditional Council (TTC) has proclaimed a noise ban in its jurisdiction from Friday, April 21, 2023 through Friday, May 12, 2023.

In accordance with the directive, funerals and other outdoor events associated with loudness are prohibited for three weeks.

This preceded the celebration of the Kpelejoo festival by the people of Tema in order to denote a period of sowing in anticipation of a bountiful harvest during the Homowo festival.

Sakumo Wulomei of Tema, Nii Ashiboi Kofi, announced the ban during a brief traditional ceremony at the Sakumo Lagoon. He stated that the ban extends to all forms of noise production, including the use of loudspeakers at social events, drumming, the use of tambourines, and loud church and wedding activities.

Nii Kofi, elucidating the significance of the period, expressed his hope that all individuals and groups in the traditional area, including personnel of the Eastern Naval Command, would refrain from engaging in noisy activities such as clapping, whistling, and musical instrument playing.

He urged the public to comply with the directive regarding the prohibition and warned that the police and a task force had been formed to prosecute violators.

To this end, he indicated that punitive measures would be taken against any individual or group in the traditional area that violated the directive.

Tema Manhean, communities 1 through 26, Ashaiman, Kubekro, Saasabii, Sakumono, Adjei Kojo, Klagon Zenu, Adigon, and Adjeiman make up the Tema Traditional area.
