A police inspector accused of murdering his fiancée in Adum, Kumasi, was reprimanded for tarnishing the reputation of the police force.

ACP Kofi Blagodzi, director of police prosecutions (JUPOL) in the Ashanti Region, is appalled by the behavior of Inspector Ahmed Twumasi, whose actions have damaged the service's reputation.

He was perplexed as to how an officer of his caliber could be involved in such a dastardly act at a time when the administration was working so hard to establish public trust and confidence.

Inspector Twumasi, alias Tycoon of the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) at the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters, is accused of shooting and killing his fiancée with a service pistol.

On April 20, 2023, around 9:50 p.m., he is accused of shooting Victoria Dapaah, also known as Maadwoa, 26, multiple times in the abdomen and torso.

On his initial appearance before the Asokore Mampong District Court on April 25, 2023, he stated that he had no intention of murdering his partner.

ACP Blagodzi stated that he anticipated the accused, who was a Police Inspector, to know better.

In addition to assuring the family of the deceased that justice would be served, the police prosecutor pleaded with the court to remand the suspect to police custody in order to assist with further investigations.

According to police, on the day of the shooting, the accused demanded a refund of the Gh5,000 he allegedly paid the deceased during a meeting in the presence of a female acquaintance.

He fired numerous shots at the victim before fleeing the scene.

The deceased was taken to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment after the incident was reported to the police by the deceased's uncle.

On the same night, a medical officer on duty pronounced her deceased.

The accused was apprehended at his hideaway in Sekyere, close to Effiduase in the Ashanti Region, following a specialized police operation.

Relatives of the deceased Maaadwoa wept in court as they learned for the first time the circumstances surrounding his murder.

Police officers were required to bring the courtroom situation under control.

Wearing an orange T-shirt over a pair of jeans shorts and slippers, the accused police officer took off his black facemask for the first time in court since his detention on Tuesday.

This occurred after the presiding magistrate, His Worship Buabin Quansah, asked the accused if he had anything to say after reading and translating the details of the offense into Twi.

Inspector Twumasi was whisked away from the courthouse's charged acquaintances and family members.
