On Monday, May 1, 2023, a three-story building project in the Adenta West Municipality was reported to have collapsed due to the use of substandard materials.

Jennifer Dede Adjabeng, the municipal chief executive (MCE) for Madina, elaborated on the incident on the Sunrise program.

In a narration, she stated, "On May 1 at approximately 3 p.m., my NADMO director informed me that the control room had received a communication about a disaster at West Adenta within our municipality. I immediately dispatched them to the scene to assess the situation, and it was verified that a three-story building had collapsed."

"We had to immediately make arrangements to evacuate the victims. As we were informed, some individuals are reportedly confined underground. "Fortunately, we were able to rescue them, but we lost one person who was pronounced dead on the scene before being transported to the hospital."

"Thereafter, NADMO has visited the site, and a security counsel has followed where the briefing has occurred. The police have briefed us on the criminal aspects of the case.

"However, on the side of the assembly, it is confirmed that the developer in question did not have a permit, and on April 20th, when the assembly discovered that he had begun construction, they served him with a summons, but he refused to respond, so he abandoned the site on Monday. We have since learned that he worked quickly over the weekend, both during the day and at night, in the hope that he would be able to resume construction on Tuesday."
