A police officer is charged with murder for allegedly shooting his fiancée in Kumasi.
Tuesday, April 25th, Inspector Ahmed Twumasi was brought before the Asokore Mampong District Court.
He has been remanded in police custody until his court appearance on May 30.
According to the evidence before the court, the suspect fired five bullets at close range, killing Victoria Dapaa, also known as Maa Adwoa, who was 26 years old.
The victim, a single mother, was rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital but was declared deceased upon arrival.
The distraught mother of the deceased stated that her daughter had received a call from the suspect and was seen conversing with her before shooting her.
"When she received the phone call, we instructed her not to leave. Her siblings advised her not to go, but she disregarded their advice. She stated that she would return momentarily. Now, consider what has transpired. She never returned. Where is my child? Where is my child?" The victim's mother was reduced to weeping.
The incident has prompted outrage among residents of Kumasi, with many calling for an end to spousal murders and for stricter measures to be implemented to prevent future occurrences.
