Private attorney Kofi Bentil has stated that Ghana's selection procedure for a Chief Justice has to be changed.
He agreed with Franklin Cudjoe's idea that Ghana should imitate Kenya's method in the appointment of a Chief Justice. Franklin Cudjoe is the Founding President of the policy think tank Imani Africa.
According to Mr. Cudjoe, the Judicial Service Commission in Kenya conducts live, public television interviews with the candidates.
The President then appoints the chosen candidate after the chosen candidate is presented to Parliament for review.
However, in Ghana, the nominee is submitted by the president for consideration by the Parliament before being approved.
Anin Yeboah, a justice in Ghana, will retire on May 24 after turning 70.
Another candidate for screening and parliamentary approval is anticipated to be proposed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
