Trouble - Kojo Ashong residents cries for help over collapse bridge

Mon, 6 Mar 2023 Source: Alby News Ghana

More trouble is looming as the only bridge that links major towns through to Kojo Ashong is at the verge of collapsing. The bridge which was erected years ago by the late President Flt Lt JJ Rawlings, has been left without any maintenance.

Several calls by residents to the Road Minister and the MP for the area is not yielding any good results, thus putting the residents in danger. Should this bridge collapse into the river, it will prevent movement of both traders and students to make it to their place of destination.

I personally went to the area to have a first hand information on this subject and realized the danger posed is very damaging should anything happen. Under the bridge is the River Densu, another long flowing water that passes through alot of towns through to Kojo Ashong to other places. A resident, Madam Leticia Aidoo raised a major concern that should there be a heavy rain, the effect on the bridge will be a serious threat.

" We beg the government to come to our aid because we are all Ghanaians, we voted too so he should listen to our cry and feel our pain".

Another resident by name George who also reside at Kojo Ashong but has a drinking bar at Otuaple, complain bitterly about that most at times, he becomes frightened whenever he is using the bridge." Even when a common motorbike to play that bridge, I feel very uneasy because of how the bridge shakes. I am pleading that the authorities as a matter of urgency, come to our aid. He also mentioned how rains disrupted the usage of the bridge and even shared pictures.

If the rains should start soon, it can easily collapse the bridge".

One resident who spoke on condition of anonymity, said her main worry is how tippers usually use that bridge without care.
