Mr. William Oppong Bio, a business associate of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong of the New Patriotic Party, has supported the presidential candidate's claim that he obtained a loan to finance the party's 1992 campaign.

Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, a candidate for the NPP presidential nomination, refuted Kennedy Agyepong's claim that he and his business associate obtained a $3 million loan to settle debts incurred by the NPP following the 1992 general elections.

However, Kennedy Agyapong's companion and a witness, Mr. Oppong Bio, has discussed the incident in an interview with Kumasi's Sompa FM.

He mentioned that the loan was obtained through Cal Bank, which was then managed by Fred Oware, who is now the vice president's chief of staff.

We settled the debt. When they went after the money and we lost the 1992 and 1996 elections, everyone fled, so our company paid it.

"At the time, circumstances compelled our company to pay. Fred Oware, who is now in the vice president's office, was the managing director at the time, and when they learned that NPP had taken out a loan there, he was forced to conceal it on our company account. "This is how it transpired," he explained.

He added that because Kwabena Agyepong was immature at the time, he may not have been privy to the information.

"It was the reason Fred Oware lost his job and Rawlings wished to put him in jail. It is a significant issue. Some individuals who were infants at the time would not have known about it. Even now, do we all know what's going on in the NPP? " he questioned.

Kennedy Agyapong, the current Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has been touring the country and meeting with NPP delegates in preparation for the party's forthcoming primaries to select a presidential candidate.

Throughout his interactions with the delegates, the representative has emphasized his contributions to the establishment and development of the party, including his funding of its activities over the years.
