Many Christians are trying their possible best to stop commiting a particular sin they know is bad but just can't stop. However, the mistake they do is trying to stop and devicing ways to stop.
Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
We are saved through grace, Jesus Christ died on the cross to save us, he died as a ransom for our sins and it's a gift from God, not if ourselves, not even of your works, lest any man should boast.
No man on earth, can stop himself from commiting a particular sin, it's only God who can. You may stop yourself from commiting the sin but it'll only be temporary, have you ever tried to stop a particular sin you're commiting and end up doing it just after the thought formed?
You can't do it on your own, no, never. Pray for God's strength, forget about the sin and think of only building yourself spiritually.
1 John 2:1 says, "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous."
1 John 2:14 says, "I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one."
Anyone struggling with a sin is like a little child no matter his/her age. Many believers think God no more loves them if they sin, some find prayer futile and useless after commiting a sin, they find going to church also useless, that's the devil's snare.
God hates sin, and would have no fellowship with sinners, sin sets a barrier between God and us. But why then would he save us sinners through Jesus?
It's because he loves us, God wants you. He loves you, even when you sin he still loves you and is hoping you confess your sins and never return to them. It's only God who can make you stop commiting that sin, don't think about the sin lest you commit it because you can't resist it with your power.
Set your mind on things above, think of building your relationship with God. Pray always, go to church, read your Bible always and make it impact your life. Have something profitable and worth it doing always, don't be lazy. The devil finds work for the idle.
Galatians 4:1, "Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all."
Are you going to continue being a slave? Are you continue to break God's heart, he sent his only begotten son to die for us in order for us to be saved, are you going to continue living in spiritual bondages? Are you going to let the devil and his angels laugh at your sin while the sons of God weep in the spiritual realm? Rise and declare, confess and pray to be free from spiritual bondages.
