Senior Lecturer At UEW Joins NPP Presidential Race

A Senior lecturer at the Department of History at the University of Education, Winneba, Eric Sakyi Nketiah, has declared his intention to contest the presidential race of the New Patriotic Party(NPP).

An official and public declaration of his intention to run in the 2023 NPP Presidential Primaries has since been released.

According to the declaration, the decision to join the race to lead the ruling New patriotic Party(NPP) comes after a prayer, reflection, consultation with a number of the grassroots of the party and careful consideration.

He joins party stalwarts like former Trades Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen and Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Boakye Agyarko, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Joe Ghartey, Francis Addai-Nimoh, Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku and Kwabena Agyepong for the sole slot to lead the party.

About Eric Sakyi Nketiah

Eric Sakyi Nketiah, a member of the Historical Society of Ghana (HSG), the Royal Historical Society (RHS) of the United Kingdom and the American Historical Association (AHA) is a Historian, Researcher, Lecturer, Author and Editor.

He is a practicing academic and teaches at the Department of History in the Faculty of Social Science Education of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) in Ghana.

He teaches various aspects of History and is also engaged in research in a variety of themes in History.

He began his academic career in 2004 as a Demonstrator at the Department of History of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in Cape Coast, Ghana.

In 2005, he became Senior Research Assistant at UCC upon completion of a Master of Philosophy (MPhil.) degree in History before finally moving to UEW in 2007.

He has been teaching at UEW since 2007 Senior Lecturer at the Department of History Education, UEW, Winneba and was Head of the Department of History Education (2017-2019) & Member of the Academic Board of UEW(2017-2019).

He has been a Member of the Copyright Board (COPYGHANA) representing non-fiction authors in Ghana since January 2012.

Eric Sakyi Nketiah was involved in student activism and leadership activities and developed his interest in leadership activism whilst a student.

He has since been interested and studied leadership. He has served and still continues to serve on governing boards of a few human rights institutions and many Christian organizations among others.

He is a practicing Christian and married wife three children; Abena Antwiwaa Nketiah, Akua Kwartenmaa Nketiah and Samuel Akwasi Sakyi Nketiah.
