Ojo Daniyan, a 50-year-old man has reportedly ben sentenced to death by an Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure for causing the death of his wife, Daniyan Dorcas.

On September 14th, 2019, Ojo was said to have committed the hideous crime after finding out that his wife had properties but never informed him about it. He was said to have set their matrimonial home on fire with his wife sleeping in it.

Damiyan was accused of murder, arson, and hindering a felony. Adeniyi Samuel, the dead person’s brother, was one of the witnesses who gave testimony in the case. According to Adeniyi, his late sister told him that she had purchased the property in her name because of fear that the husband might sell it without her knowledge.

On Thursday, July 7, 2022, Justice A. O. Adebusoye announced the verdict and stated that the prosecution had established its case against Ojo beyond a reasonable doubt. Ojo was found guilty as a result.

The defendant was accused of setting a fire, killing someone, and impeding their ability to perform a crime during the incident, according to the prosecution team led by Helen Falowo. In addition, it was claimed that Daniyan had prevented the victim from using the doors as a means of escape before setting her ablaze.

The prosecution also provided a medical report stating that the deceased was taken to the hospital on September 14, 2019, at Shagari Village, Akure, after suffering burn injuries. She was treated for full-thickness burns for 72 hours and was in serious condition. Due to the severity of the burns, she eventually passed away on September 14, 2019.

The husband denied locking his wife inside the room or starting the fire during the police probe. Additionally, he had defended his innocence in court but the court determined that the accused was guilty as charged based on the pieces of evidence and testimony that were presented to it, and so it sentenced him to death by hanging.
