Emmanuel Sakyi Afriyie, a 25-year-old banker, stands accused of committing a series of crimes that have shaken the community. Among his alleged misdeeds is the embezzlement of funds from multiple customers, including prominent figures such as a deceased Inspector General of Police and a deceased judge.

Displaying a callous and greedy demeanor, the young man reportedly utilized a portion of the illicitly obtained money to acquire extravagant items. These included the purchase of an iPhone 14 Pro Max, a Toyota Camry vehicle, and the transfer of funds to various bank accounts, including his own and those of his accomplices, totaling seventeen accounts across multiple banks and mobile money platforms.

Emmanuel's audacious plans to abscond to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates with his girlfriend were thwarted by swift action from the security agencies. Acting swiftly, they placed him under surveillance, ultimately apprehending him at Kotoka International Airport on June 4, 2023.

According to allegations, Emmanuel surreptitiously recorded his boss entering her password using a mobile phone, subsequently utilizing the footage to gain unauthorized access to her accounts. Over a two-month period, he allegedly orchestrated the transfer of funds from unsuspecting customers' accounts.

Presently, the 25-year-old Emmanuel Sakyi Afriyie has been arraigned before the court, alongside some of his alleged accomplices, and remanded in custody. His co-conspirators, however, have been granted bail.

Emmanuel faces multiple charges, including theft and conspiracy, in addition to the additional charges of document forgery and falsification of accounts. These combined accusations amount to a total of thirteen charges leveled against him. Meanwhile, eleven other suspected accomplices are currently evading capture, as law enforcement agencies intensify their efforts to bring them to justice.

As the investigation into this case continues, Emmanuel is scheduled to appear before Judge Ellen Ofei-Ayeh on June 16, 2023. While proclaiming his innocence, he has pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him.
