Akufo-Addo's Attribution Of Ghana's Hardship To Russia-Ukraine War Is Dishonest . . .

Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the representative for the Tamale Central Constituency, has ridiculed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration for praising Ghana's acceptance of the first installment of the $3 billion IMF loan.

Friday, the IMF extended Ghana's three-year loan by an additional $600 million.

The lawmaker questioned the legitimacy of the government's commemoration of a debt that will be a burden for Ghanaians.

In an interview, Murtala criticized the administration's careless economic management, which led to the IMF agreement. He criticized the government for attributing the nation's economic difficulties to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the COVID-19 outbreak.

"The government's attribution of the economic difficulties to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and COVID-19 is dishonest. Sincerity is essential in politics; you must be genuine with the people. These people [government] have informed us that they will never join the IMF.

"And this country has everything it's ever wanted, so we will not go to the IMF," they said. Then, suddenly, they arrived at the IMF. Now, they are rejoicing over their loan application. They are commemorating and accumulating obligations for this nation, and they expect us to celebrate with them?"

He asserted that other African countries, and not Ghana, ought to object to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

"The NDC is caution them, just as we did when they disregarded our warnings. In response to our request that they visit the IMF, they declined. And they are doing so at a time when there will be no noticeable results. They have disastrously mismanaged the economy.

"Ghana will not be the only country affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, if any effects occur. In reality, many of these nations rely on Russia and Ukraine more than we do. Ghana and Russia traded approximately $140 million worth of products in 2008, while Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso traded more.

The US government will provide $300 million to Ghana for the construction of an innovative data center in Accra.

The United States' International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has announced $300 million in funding for Ghana and other African nations.

Using its $300 million lending facility to Africa Data Centers (ADCs), the continent's largest network of interconnected data centers, the Corporation announced that it will construct a first-of-its-kind data center in Ghana.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the $3 billion assistance from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) restored investor confidence, allowing Ghana to benefit from this facility.

The Office of the Finance Minister tweeted: "Following the #IMFDeal, the @UnitedStates has shown renewed confidence in Ghana as an attractive investment destination." We applaud the announcement of a $300 million private investment for the construction of a first-of-its-kind data center in Ghana through @DFCgov."
