On Saturday, July 22, 2023, a Police out rider in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's security detail ran over an Okada rider at Gomoa Buduatta in the Central Region, severing the latter's limb in the process.
When the unfortunate incident occurred, the Vice President was attending the 75th Speech and Prize Giving Day Celebration of Ghana National College in Cape Coast.
On reaching Gomoa Buduatta in the Gomoa East District, it is reported that one of his security team's out riders made an improper pass and caused the Okada rider to collide.
The leg of the victim, who is believed to be in his late 20s, was severed instantaneously by the impact of the collision, leaving him in critical condition.
After hitting the victim, the officer allegedly did not pause to transport him to the hospital, but instead fled the scene.
Yaw Boagyan, the Kasapa FM Central Regional Correspondent, was informed by eyewitness Emmanuel Gaise that the helpless victim was hurried to the Winneba Trauma and specialist Hospital for treatment.
The matter has meanwhile been reported to the police station for investigation.
