Former Minister of Finance Dr. Kwabena Duffuor has joined the National Democratic Congress to support the party's candidate in the May 23 by-election in Kumawu.
In a statement released on Friday, May 19, 2023, Dr. Duffuor exhorted all NDC party members to rally behind Kwesi Amankwah to secure the Kumawu seat.
"As part of National Democratic Congress (NDC) preparations for the May 23 by-election in Kumawu, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor will join the NDC on the ground today, May 19, 2023, to advocate for the election of our Parliamentary Candidate, Kwasi Amankwah.
"As a native of Kumawu, the former Central Bank Governor and former Minister of Finance is fully committed to helping our party win this by-election, particularly one that involves his own people.
"Dr. Kwabena Duffuor encourages everyone to rally behind the party and our candidate before, during, and after this election in order to build momentum for our 2024 general election."
Dr. Duffuor was a candidate in the May 13 NDC flagbearer election, but withdrew late in the campaign, leaving former Kumasi Mayor Kojo Bonsu to challenge John Dramani Mahama, who was elected by a resounding 98.9% of the delegates.
