He is a Muslim, so what? Asamoah Boateng minimizes the religious card argument against Bawumia's candidacy

Former Member of Parliament for Mfantsiman West, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has minimized the impact of the religious argument against Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's prospects of winning the 2024 election, should he emerge as the party's nominee.

Prior to the presidential primaries of the governing party, numerous arguments for and against the two leading candidates, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Alan Kyerematen, have emerged.

With regard to Dr.

There are concerns within the party and among some Ghanaians about Bawumia's religious status and how that may affect his electability in the upcoming national elections, despite the fact that he has been criticized by many for the deteriorating state of the Ghanaian economy due to the significant role he played before and after the NPP came to power.

Although Ghana is a secular state, the proponents of this argument believe that with 70 percent of the population being Christian, it would be exceedingly difficult for a Muslim presidential candidate to win an election, despite Islam being the second largest religion in Ghana.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is confident that the party can overcome this obstacle.

Bawumia emerges as the candidate for president.

On Citi TV on May 3, 2023, he argued that once Ghanaians have coexisted peacefully despite religious and tribal differences, this should not be an obstacle for Dr. King.

Bawumia has demonstrated the strength and character necessary to command the New Patriotic Party and become president after 2024.

Alan and Bawumia are the two prominent candidates.

It is common knowledge within the party that I support Bawumia, he noted.

The former Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) added, "Looking at what he's done since he came into the public eye as a running mate and as a vice, he's one of those individuals I've seen in politics who has matured very quickly, swiftly, and intelligently.

And he has the character and strength to endure the pressures."

"I also recall that the 2016 victory was partially attributable to him [Bawumia]."
