Elmina's paramount chief, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI, has explained why he cried at the opening of the €85 million Elmina Fishing Port in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abreg (KEEA) Municipality of the Central Region.
According to him, it brought him to tears of joy to witness the construction of such a mammoth project in his hometown during his tenure as chief of Paramount.
At the ceremony, Nana Kodwo Conduah VI's grief was trending on social media. His behavior, according to some critics, reeked of hypocrisy and double standards.
Others commended the chief for expressing gratitude to the government for the initiative that will empower the city's large unemployed youth population.
Nana Kodwo Conduah VI stated on Monday's Dwaso Nsem program on Adom FM that he is unconcerned by the social media criticisms.
Rather, he stated that it is the fulfillment of commitments made by unsuccessful administrations.
"I am aware that people are making light of me and labeling me as a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but I could care less. The mayor of Elmina was pleased that President Akufo-Addo was able to complete the project on time.
The majority of the region's population is involved in fishing, so the chief of Elmina anticipated that the facility would reduce unemployment and improve the economic situation of the 138 coastal communities.
He wishes the initiative had been handled by the private sector, but he is confident that the government's representatives will do a better job.
Nana Conduah commended the government for timely completion of the project.
