John Dumelo, a Ghanaian actor and politician, has urged his countrymen to be 'angry' about the ongoing illicit mining that is contaminating the country's prime water sources.

According to him, if the threat, also known as galamsey, is not eliminated, Ghana will be forced to import food and water because there will be nothing left to eat or drink.

The soaked chemicals used in the illicit mining process, he explained, will have a significant impact on Ghana's position as the second largest cocoa producer in the world.

Using Twitter, he advised, "If we do not combat this galamsey threat, we will lose our position as the second-largest cacao producer in the world. Our agricultural land will be completely destroyed, and we will begin importing food.

"The few remaining farmlands will be DRENCHED in chemicals. We will commence importing drinking water," he said.

Prof. Kwabena Frimpong- Boateng, a former minister of the environment, science, technology, and innovation, claimed that some high-ranking government officials are involved in illicit mining, also known as "galamsey."

The renowned professor, who served under President Nana Akufo-Addo during his first tenure, insisted that the corruption extends to Jubilee House, the seat of government.
