Ghana's First Skatepark Has Been Compelled To Close Down Due To Violent Threats

Freedom Skatepark, Ghana's first skatepark, was compelled to close due to violent threats.

Due to violent threats by illegal workers attempting to construct a wall on the premises, Ghana's, which was recently visited by US Vice President during her time in Ghana, has been compelled to close.

The park was abruptly closed without notice or explanation, prompting the owner, Sandy Alibo, to post a plea for assistance on her Instagram story on Sunday morning.

The Surf Ghana community is known for promoting skateboarding and surfing in Ghana, and its members are devastated by the closure of the park.

Alibo expressed her displeasure with the situation on her Instagram story and exhorted people to work together to find a solution.

According to reports, the illegal workers claimed they were contracted by unknown parties to construct the wall on the property.

Police eventually removed the employees who allegedly threatened the staff and vandalized the park.

However, the damage was already done, so the park had to be temporarily closed.

"A man instructed a team to construct a wall in front of the children skating during the middle of the day.

The same individual refused to provide his identity or official documents demonstrating he is the landowner, according to a statement posted on their social media accounts.

Members of the Surf Ghana community are outraged by the closure of the park and are demanding immediate action to resolve the problem.

Vic Mensa, a Ghanaian-American rapper, took to Twitter to condemn the actions of the anonymous attackers.

" STOP THESE THIEVES FROM ATTEMPTING TO THEFT FREEDOM SKATE PARK," he tweeted.

The community is well-known for its efforts to promote surfing and skateboarding culture in Ghana, and the closure of the park is viewed as a significant setback to their efforts.

A sustainable park made of recycled materials, the facility was furnished with an internet café, bathrooms, and a store that sold skate gear and trained novice skaters; an international community-funded investment.

The late Ghanaian-American fashion designer Virgil Ablorh collaborated with Off-White, Vans, Daily Paper, and other local partners to make this ambition a reality.

The Surf Ghana community, an NGO that supports outdoor sports in the West African nation, has been instrumental in establishing a forum for surfing and skateboarding among Ghana's youth.

The closure of the park is a setback to the community and could result in the loss of an important forum for young people to express themselves in Ghana.
