A report posted by Myjoyonline.com seen by CNM reports that, during a vicious conflict between the Gonja and Mamprusi tribes, at least seven people tragically lost their lives, and several others were injured.

Escalating tensions over the presence of a rival chief from Daboya sparked the outbreak of violence in Lukula.

Unidentified assailants shot and killed Naa Salifu Nachinaa, the 70-year-old leader of the Mamprusi community in Kuwerigu.

Witnesses reported the devastation of more than 50 houses, most of which belonged to members of the Mamprusi tribe, displacing more than 100 individuals who sought refuge elsewhere.

In the latest round of fighting between the Gonja and the Mamprusi, seven people have been killed and a number of others have been injured.

Traditional warriors from the Wasipe Traditional Area in Daboya and the Soo Traditional Area in Janga are predominantly involved in the conflict.

This conflict has its origins in 2019, immediately after the Savanna and North East Regions were established.

The Tampulmas and Mamprusis, who dominate the communities in the North Gonja district of the Savannah Region, have lodged complaints against the Gonja authorities, alledging them of ignoring their economic and social requirements.

In the latest round of fighting between the Gonja and the Mamprusi, seven people have been killed and a number of others have been injured.

As a consequence, they declared their desire to join the North East Region, sparking the initial conflict with the Gonja traditional authorities in Daboya.

In April, the Gonjas retaliated against the Mempeasem by attacking and destroying their community.

A government committee was subsequently constituted to address the dispute. The North East Regional Minister issued a statement on the matter in December.
