Her dazzling appearance made her look considerably younger than her actual age. However, some critics believe that, as a gospel singer, she does not portray a Christlike lifestyle.
Joyce had always enjoyed music and began singing in the chapel at age 14. She also made sure, despite her mother's objections, that she never missed musical concerts in her area when she was younger.
Joyce may have contested the conventional belief that gospel musicians are inert on stage. She was able to hone her live performance skills with the "See Them Band" ensemble in Kumasi.
