Government Officials Who Enjoyed Galamsey Money With Their Side Chicks Should Be Punished - Sammy Gyamfi

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), referred to all of the government appointees identified in Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng's report as "galamsey kingpins."

The report describes the activities of the former Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), citing government officials who fought against the zealous protection of forests and aquatic bodies.

Sammy Gyamfi told journalists in Accra on Tuesday, April 25 that a large number of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's appointees were involved in galamsey with unbridled abandon.

The report, according to him, underscored the fact that "illegal mining has been a free-for-all enterprise" among government appointees.

He notified the Office of the Special Prosecutor that the NDC would petition it in the coming days to investigate and prosecute those named.

"I, along with other party leaders, would petition the OSP for an immediate investigation and prosecution of the named individuals," We expect the OSP to investigate the matter; if he lacks the courage to do so, he should resign. We demand justice and action, and if they do not provide it, we will take to the streets and go to their residences to inform them that we will not allow them and their side chicks to enjoy galamsey while our water bodies are destroyed.

"We would also petition the legislature and demand an investigation," he said. But there's more. We also expect the House to discuss the Gold Mafia report by Aljazeera. These issues are interconnected, and Ghanaians are curious about what transpired. Since 2017, billions of dollars have been wasted on the galamsey conflict. Those allegedly used to purchase drones were squandered, as were those allocated to Operation Vanguard. Therefore, if we wish to investigate the matter, it must be broadcasted galamsey(1)
