Female journalist and Gay rights activist Makena Njeri has recently shed some light after the death of Eldoret-based fashion designer Edwin Chiloba.
The fashion designer was apparently from the queer community but the story of his death is filled with controversy.
The designer's body was stashed in a metallic box that was dumped on the road by a numberless vehicle. The decomposing body of the deceased who had won female clothes was later discovered by locals upon opening the box. Gay activist Makena Njeri has however revealed that the death of the designer reportedly came about as a result of a hate crime.
Makena Njeri also complained about the Government ignoring to implement rights that protect other members of LGBTQ from going through similar acts of violence. According to Makena, the LGBTQ community had to stop being seen as a nonissue by Government. Makena went on to reveal that there were Kenyan politicians who supported the queer community.
The activist went on to ask those politicians to support them in public and not in private only. "This is a hate crime, it has homophobia written all over it and it sickens me that this is how we start this year."
