I Walked In And Saw Him Flogging My Baby With A Hanger, Then He Tied His Hand With Rubber Band —Lady

The woman whose baby's hand was amputated after the father allegedly flogged him with a hanger has narrated what happened in an exclusive interview with BBC News Pidgin.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with BBC News Pidgin, the woman disclosed that the incident happened one Friday night. She said she briefly left the baby to ease herself, but the baby started crying as soon as she left.

When she returned to the baby, she said she saw the man (baby daddy) flogging her two-month-old baby with a hanger. She said the man tied his hand with a rubber band and told her that his wounds would heal fast owing to the fact that he was a baby.

"It really happened on a Friday night." I left him to go and relieve myself, and he was crying on top of his voice. As I came, I saw him flogging the baby with a hanger. When he finished flogging the baby, he now tied his hands with a rubber band. He now says he is just a little child, his hands will heal fast and the bones are going to join together. He threatened me not to tell anybody, "–she recounts.

According to the woman, her baby's daddy warned her to keep what happened a secret. However, as soon as he stepped out of the house, she said she ran to her neighbours for help.

She said her neighbour gave her financial assistance and also followed her to the hospital. They were rejected by a couple of hospitals due to the state of the baby’s hand. The baby was eventually admitted to a Federal Medical Centre.

Speaking about the state of the baby when admitted, a medical doctor who spoke with BBC News Pidgin disclosed that the baby’s hand had rotted, turned blacK, and began to stink by the time he was brought to the hospital.

The doctor said they decided to amputate the baby’s hand before the germs in it spread to his blood and caused more issues. He said the mother agreed to the amputation and the surgery was done successfully.

The mother added that she had known the man for about four years. She said she lived with him when the incident happened. According to her, when she was staying at her aunt’s place, the man came to her and told her to live with him.

She expressed her concern and sadness about what happened to her child. She said she never expected such a thing from the man.
