When we visited Essipong Sports Stadium, we were appalled – Dr. Kwabena Duffuor laments.
Flagbearer candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, has lamented the wretched condition of Essipong Sports Stadium.
Since last year, the politician and businessman has been traversing the nation as part of his campaign to win the NDC's election for its presidential candidate.
According to him, the Essipong Sports Stadium was a sight to behold when he visited it.
"Huge investments are required in athletics, particularly infrastructure. In an interview with Akoma FM, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor bemoaned, "When we went to Essipong, it was an eye-opener to invest in such a project and watch it deteriorate due to a lack of care."
If granted the opportunity to lead Ghana as president, the NDC's presidential candidate says he will invest heavily in sports infrastructure.
"Therefore, we have decided to construct ultra-modern stadiums in all regions of Ghana, and even at the district level, so that we can cultivate local talent instead of relying on foreign athletes.
Dr. Duffuor stated, "Therefore, if we want to develop Ghana football, we must invest significantly."
The Western Region's Essipong Sports Stadium has been neglected despite the government's vow to renovate and bring it up to par.
