IMF Deal : Ghana Approved Of $3 Billion Bailout

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has granted Ghana the long-awaited $3 billion in financial support.

At a meeting held today, May 17, 2023 in Washington, the IMF's Executive Board unanimously approved Ghana's three-year program.

In the meantime, the IMF has announced that on Thursday, [May 18], a virtual press conference will be conducted to provide journalists with insight into the results of the Executive Board meeting regarding Ghana's request for an Extended Credit Facility (ECF) Arrangement.

Stephane Roudet, IMF Mission Chief for Ghana; Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana's Minister of Finance; Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana; and Tatiana Mossot, Senior Communications Officer at the IMF, will be among the prominent speakers at the press briefing.

The highly anticipated press conference intends to clarify the discussions and decisions made during the IMF Executive Board meeting regarding Ghana's request for an Extended Credit Facility Arrangement. The Zoom-facilitated virtual format will allow journalists and other interested parties to interact with the panel of experts and obtain a deeper understanding of the IMF's perspective on Ghana's economic situation and the proposed assistance.

Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana's Minister of Finance, and Ernest Addison, Ghana's Governor, will likely discuss the country's economic challenges, reform initiatives, and the potential impact of the Extended Credit Facility Arrangement on Ghana's financial stability and economic growth prospects.

The IMF Mission Chief for Ghana, Stephane Roudet, will provide an expert analysis of the country's economic performance, delineating the conditions and policy measures related to the Extended Credit Facility Arrangement.
