On Saturday night, May 20, an unidentified group of males assaulted a team of Immigration officers on patrol at Beat 6 of the Aflao border.

According to a statement issued by the Ghana Immigration Service and signed by its Head of Public Affairs, C/Superintendent Michael Amoako-Atta, three members of the patrol squad sustained serious injuries after being pelted with stones.

According to the Ghana Immigration Service, the three injured officers are being treated at the Ketu South Municipal Hospital under strict security.

It was added that the attackers were dispersed by warning bullets fired by the patrol team prior to the arrival of additional Immigration Officers.

According to a statement from the Ghana Immigration Service, one bystander who sustained firearm wounds is currently receiving treatment.

"Management of the Ghana Immigration Service has received with great displeasure a report of an attack on a team of Immigration Officers on patrol duty at Beat 6 of the Aflao border at approximately 23:25 last night by assailants who have yet to be identified. Stones were thrown at the patrol team, resulting in severe injuries to three members of the Immigration team who are being treated at the Ketu South Municipal Hospital under tight security.

"However, warning gunfire from the patrol team dispersed the attackers prior to the arrival of reinforcement Immigration Officers. However, one bystander sustained firearm wounds and is currently receiving treatment, the Ghana Immigration Service lamented.

However, it condemned the attack and urged Aflao border residents and commuters to assist them in securing the frontier.

"We condemn the attack unequivocally and advise border residents of Aflao, commuters, and citizens in general to view border officials as ultimately laboring for the safety of our country. While we appreciate the cooperation and support of border residents and citizens in general, these attacks on Officers by certain members of the public must cease immediately, the Ghana Immigration Service pleaded in a statement.

The GIS assured that it will monitor the situation in Aflao and will deploy all necessary mechanisms to ensure that border security is not compromised.

"Management of GIS will continue to keep a close eye on the situation in Aflao, and all necessary mechanisms will be deployed to ensure border security remains uncompromised," GIS assured.

ATTACK ON IMMIGRATION OFFICERS AT AFLAO BEAT 6

At approximately 23:25 last night, unidentified assailants attacked a team of Immigration Officers on patrol duty at Beat 6 of the Aflao frontier, much to the displeasure of the Ghana Immigration Service's management.

Stones were thrown at the patrol team, resulting in severe injuries to three members of the Immigration team who are being treated at the Ketu South Municipal Hospital under strict security.

Warning shots fired by the patrol team dispersed the attackers prior to the approach of a reinforcement team of Immigration Officers. However, one bystander sustained gunshot wounds and is currently receiving treatment.

We condemn the attack unequivocally and advise border residents of Aflao, commuters, and citizens in general to view border officials as individuals ultimately laboring for the safety of our nation. While we value the cooperation and support of frontier residents and citizens in general, these attacks on Officers by some members of the public must cease immediately.

The management of GIS will continue to keep a close watch on the situation in Aflao, and all necessary mechanisms will be implemented to maintain the integrity of border security.

The administration urges all Officers, particularly those at the Aflao Sector Command, to remain unfazed by the unfortunate incident.
