Northern Region police have opened an investigation into a gunshot in Yong Dakpemyili, a suburb of Tamale Metropolis.
According to reports, a protracted dispute over chieftaincy between two brothers in the community led to the gunfire incident that left some residents injured.
Abdul Wahab Dawuda, the Assemblyman for the community, verified the incident on Accra-based Citi TV, stating that it occurred on Thursday, May 18, 2023.
"Gunshots were fired as a consequence of a dispute between two brothers over a chieftaincy title. "The community is currently calm, but we do not know what will occur in the future," he stated.
Officers were dispatched to the neighborhood to restore order, but no arrests were made.
As a consequence of the incident, residents remained fearful, and economic activities slowed significantly, according to reports.
Both parties of the conflict have reported deaths, injuries, and the destruction and destruction of property worth thousands of Ghana Cedis over the years.
