The managing director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has instituted a reward program for residents who report unauthorized connections in their communities.

Mr. Mahama announced at a press conference on Thursday, May 4, that citizens will receive 6% of the total debt of any illegal connections they expose.

"Citizens who report illicit connection will receive 6% of the amount," Mr. Mahama stated, adding, "let's all use this as a way to assist ECG.

ECG is for all of us, not just one individual."

Additionally, Mr. Mahama disclosed that ECG has recently recovered approximately GH3.1 billion from delinquent clients.

Those who report illicit connections will receive 6% of the total debt.

During its one-month revenue mobilization campaign, the company intended to recover GH5.7 billion from individuals and businesses who had not paid for the electricity they had consumed.

Additionally, Mr. Mahama disclosed that ECG has recently recovered approximately GH3.1 billion from delinquent clients.

In order to maintain connectivity, both public and private entities were required to contribute funds to pay off existing debt.

After demonstrating a willingness to repay their debts, certain institutions were not disconnected from the national infrastructure.
