Just In : IGP Dampare Sued By Over 80 Aggrieved Police Officers

Fri, 19 May 2023 Source: realnewz.com

A total of eighty-two (82) aggrieved police officers have filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General (1st Defendant), the Ghana Police Service (2nd Defendant), and the Inspector General of Police (3rd Defendant) for acting unfairly and capriciously with regard to the Ghana Police Service's failure to promote them following the completion of their studies under the service's study leave with pay policy.

In a lawsuit filed at the High Court in Accra, police officers led by D/Inspector Kofi Osal, who were granted study leave with pay for the 2017-2018 academic year, accused the Ghana Police Service of denying them their deserved accelerated promotions or entry into the Police College upon completion of their studies.

They insist that despite notifying the Ghana Police Service of the conclusion of their programs of study and requesting promotion, the Ghana Police Service failed to promote them despite the fact that others in comparable situations have been promoted.

The eighty-two police officers stated that the Ghana Police Service engaged in a "unfair and unreasonable exercise of discretion, the failure to uphold the duty to be fair and candid not to act capriciously or biasedly or be motivated by resentment, prejudice, and personal dislike on the part of the 2nd[Ghana Police Service] and 3rd[the IGP] defendants," and therefore demand that the court issue "(a) An order directed against the 2nd and 3rd Defendants

The lawsuit was submitted on May 15, 2023, and the defendants are required to file a response within eight days of being properly served.
