Just In : Parliament Approves 7 Different Loans Including $200M Facility Loan From World Bank

The government has authorized seven loans, including a $200 million loan from the World Bank.

It is anticipated that the $200 million will fund the Ghana Digital Acceleration Project.

The remaining facilities include an additional $60,6 million for the Ghana Covid-19 Emergency Preparedness and Response Project, $150 million for the West Africa Food Systems Resilience Programme, and €170 million for the establishment of the Development Bank of Ghana.

The remainder consists of a $30 million facility for the Medical Equipment Provision Project in response to Covid-19, $150 million for the Primary Healthcare Investment Project, and $150 million for the Public Financial Management for Service Delivery Programme.

The legislators were recalled from their Easter vacation with the intent of approving these loan facilities.

In the meantime, Ghana and Japan have signed two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) aimed at enhancing rice seed production capacity and providing scholarships for human resource development.

These agreements represent a significant stride forward in the economic partnership between the two nations, as they seek to leverage their respective strengths to create outcomes that are mutually beneficial.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo emphasized the significance of collaboration between Ghana and Japan in addressing a variety of global challenges, including poverty, migration, terrorism, and climate change, in remarks to the press following bilateral discussions. The president emphasized that Ghana will continue to collaborate closely with Japan to advance regional and global peace and security.
