Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, a New Patriotic Party flagbearer candidate, has expressed optimism about steering the party into the general elections of 2024.

He stated that delegates of the ruling party will select him over all other candidates, with the majority of these ballots coming from farmers.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto told journalists in Accra that his track record makes him the clear frontrunner.

"The majority of these farmers I encountered in the Upper East, Upper West, and Savannah regions are also party delegates and constituency executives. The one million farmers are the ones who will testify to my credibility. Ask any farmer about the impact I had on their lives when I was the Minister of Agriculture and Food. And they will disclose to you; they will reveal themselves. Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto stated, "They will vote for my victory."

Dr. Akoto has formally resigned in order to pursue his presidential ambitions, as he intends to lead the New Patriotic Party into the general elections of 2024.

He served two terms as the Kwadaso Constituency Member of Parliament in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

Until his appointment as Minister of Food and Agriculture in 2017, he held the positions of Deputy Ranking Member and then Ranking Member for the Committee on Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs in Parliament.

NPP's Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto

The former Minister of Food and Agriculture faces stiff competition from Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, and Francis Addai Nimo, all of whom have proclaimed their intention to run for the party's presidential nomination.

Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto stated that the majority of NPP delegates who are farmers benefited from the policies and initiatives he enacted as Food and Agric Minister.
