NDC Is Gradually Pushing James Gyake Quayson Into A Pit

Thu, 1 Jun 2023 Source: realnewz.com

James Gyakye Quayson, a former member of parliament (MP) for Assin North, has suffered the same fate as Adamu Dramani Sakande, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Bawku Central, according to recent reports.

In a recent statement, the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, also known as Nana B, accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of playing politics with double standards and emotional coercion, which led to Mr. Quayson's expulsion from parliament.

In 2012, when Mr. Sakande was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison for falsely declaring under oath that he had renounced his British citizenship, the NDC hailed the verdict as a victory for the rule of law, according to the speaker.

In Mr. Quayson's case, however, the NDC is conducting an emotional campaign, blaming the court for implementing the law uniformly to remove him as an MP.

Nana B continues by saying that Mr. Quayson had the opportunity to argue his case before the High Court and the Supreme Court, but was unable to persuade any of the justices that he deserved to remain in parliament. According to the statement, Mr. Quayson's criminal trial is currently ongoing, and he still has the opportunity to present a defense.

According to Nana B, the NDC refuses to accept responsibility for their inability to conduct due diligence prior to the 2020 elections. Instead, they attribute Mr. Quayson's removal to the court, which applied the law uniformly in 2012 and 2023.

The statement concludes that Ghana's laws and justice system do not discriminate on the basis of political affiliation, and that the NDC should take accountability for their actions and spare the residents of Assin North from emotional blackmail.

Intriguingly, this narrative demonstrates the power struggle and cutthroat competition on Ghana's political scene.

Moreover, it highlights the nondiscriminatory and fair character of the country's legal and justice system.
