NDC Officials Together With Supporters Throws Massive Weight Behind James Gyake Quayson

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, residents and supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Assin North in the Central Region flocked to Assin Bereku in support of the embattled Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, James Gyakye Quayson.

Residents of Assin Bereku, clad primarily in red and black with red armbands and carrying lit candles, marched through the city's main streets while singing war songs to express their displeasure.

Mr. Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, the MP for Odododiodio Constituency, Mr. Abdul Sallam Adams, the NDC's Central Regional Chairman, Prof. Richard Kofi Asiedu, and some elderly women attended the March, which was organized by the NDC.

The throng stretched roughly 500 meters through the city's streets.

Mr. Edwin Vanderpuye, addressing the enormous throng, described the Supreme Court's order to Parliament to expunge James Gyakye Quayson's name from its records as politically motivated and an attempt to deny the people representation.

"This is a travesty of justice and an affront to Ghana's growing democracy," he said.

He urged the people not to relax their vigilance and to vote en masse for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to demonstrate their indignation over the unfair treatment meted out by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, which he claimed is hiding behind the Supreme Court.

Prof. Richard Asiedu, the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, implied that the NPP is stockpiling funds that will be used to persuade voters to support them.

He used the Ashanti Region special election in Kumawu as an illustration.

Consequently, he urged the populace to embrace the money and goods that the NPP will distribute, but to vote against them.

In the event of a potential by-election in Assin North, he reaffirmed that the NDC would employ astute and rigorous strategies in order to maximize their chances.

James Gyakye Quayson was removed from his position as the area's representative by the New Patriotic Party and the Supreme Court, leaving the constituents without a representative.

They claim that court issues have suspended all of Mr. James Quayson's initiatives over the past three years, thereby impeding constituency development.

In an effort to humiliate the NPP and the government, they pledged to vote for any NDC candidate.
