Not All Animals Can Be Used As A Source Of Food - Forestry Commission

The United Nations (UN) International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) is observed annually on May 22 to raise awareness and understanding of biodiversity issues.

As the world celebrates International Day for Biological Diversity, the Forestry Commission has advised Ghanaians to stop viewing all animals as potential sources of food.

Every year on May 22, the United Nations (UN) observes International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB) in an effort to increase understanding and awareness of biodiversity issues.

On the Asaase Breakfast Show, Richard Gyimah, an official of the Forestry Commission, characterized the phenomenon as disturbing and added that the government must provide alternative means of support for those who engage in this practice routinely.

"Let's create an awareness and understanding of biodiversity issues so that people realize we need to look around us," he said.

"We don't need to be killing the various plants and animals that we see, especially the animals for meat requirements; people want to kill anything that comes, but this is not the case in other countries."

Let's do that as a nation, said Gyimah, if it's a matter of creating alternative livelihoods and also finding them gainful employment in order to change this disquieting attitude.
